A total of five men, four withrifles and one who appears to be unarmed. Photo is of F-117 and a P-38 warbird at Peterson AFB Colorado. Can't understand why they seem to be guarding only the F-117 :) (Thats the Confederate Airforce in me talking.) :) zel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Obviously the 'SR' in SR-71 stands for Strategic Recon, but I believe that most of the 71's missions were for tactical recon and BDA. Perhaps it was originally designated 'strategic' because it was built in the middle of the cold war and was used to initially determine Soviet and Warsaw Pact nuclear capabilities. Does anyone here have another possibility or perhaps the correct answer? -Michael Michael David Knight gt6745b@prism.gatech.edu * COMBAT AIRCRAFT: A mix of * Georgia Institute of Technology * cold steel, sharp teeth, * Atlanta, Georgia 30332 * cosmic warlords, and evil * Aerospace Engineering (404)676-0520 * spirits. * ------------------------------ From: gt6745b@prism.gatech.edu Date: Mon, 28 Dec 92 22:10:57 EST Subject: SR-71 Designation I was reading the stuff about aircraft designations and a question arose in my mind.
