I found out late Fri 23 Jul that the Angels would not be at Dayton this year. I decided then not to go. On Mon 26 Jul, I called the Development Department of the State of Ohio, Travel & Tourism Division, to let someone know why I did not attend Flightspeed '93. The human on the other end proceeded to tell me that the Blue Angels "were no more." Sheesh. Tom Ohmer, Computer Specialist, DSAC-AAA 1 614 692 8059 DLA Systems Automation Center, P.O. Either none of us knows about it, or them that knows ain't talking. Apparently, the secrecy is not government-induced -- it's derived from concern about the competition. I heard a little more about it: 1) VTHL stands for Vertical Takeoff, Horizontal Landing, 2) takeoff is under rocket propulsion (of course) 3) Lockheed has apparently come up with some novel way to generate lift for the horizontal landing phase. ...Russ ------------------------------ From: rschnapp@metaflow.com (Russ Schnapp) Date: Fri, 30 Jul 93 09:38:15 PDT Subject: VTHL I've heard no positive responses on VTHL from list members, so far. Or else those sure were some oddly painted F/A-18s parked at Boeing Field the last couple days (not to mention the odd maneuvers around noon). ------------------------------ End of Skunk Works Digest V3 #2 ******************************* To subscribe to skunk-works-digest, send the command: subscribe skunk-works-digest in the body of a message to "listserv@harbor.ecn.purdue.edu". If you want to subscribe something other than the account the mail is coming from, such as a local redistribution list, then append that address to the "subscribe" command; for example, to subscribe "local-skunk-works": subscribe skunk-works-digest local-skunk-works@your.domain.net To unsubscribe, send mail to the same address, with the command: unsubscribe skunk-works-digest in the body. Administrative requests, problems, and other non-list mail can be sent to either "skunk-works-digest-owner@harbor.ecn.purdue.edu" or, if you don't like to type a lot, "prm@ecn.purdue.edu". A non-digest (direct mail) version of this list is also available; to subscribe to that instead, replace all instances of "skunk-works-digest" in the commands above with "skunk-works". Back issues are available for anonymous FTP from harbor.ecn.purdue.edu, in /pub/skunk-works/digest/vNN.nMMM (where "NN" is the volume number, and "MMM" is the issue number).
