The object I saw was triangular, except the only lights it had were dim black that it totally blended in with the night sky (no moon). The first I saw of it was a few dim lights appearing out of nowhere in the southern sky, then this black shape totally obscured Orion, then I saw the triangular pattern of lights. It moved rather quickly and 'dissapeared' over the San Bernardion mountains north of the city. Now, Norton AFB is to the south of the location I made this sighting (my dad was stationed there at the time btw), but the only planes flying from there were C-141's and an occasional C-130. To this day I have no idea what that was I saw, but I've often speculated that it was some sort of new plane being tested. In fact, I read years later that the stealth aircraft (B-2 and F-117) that we know of today were being tested around that time. I never reported it and no Men In Black came looking for me... :-), so I bet it was one of ours. BTW, the craft I saw also had the 'shuttle logo'-type triangular shape to it. In fact, the woman in our car pool had to schedule her wedding around it. Her fiancee wouldn't let _anything_ stop him from going to the reunion. By the way, I just read "Sled Driver"--great book, except that he seems to have overlooked NASA's flying the planes. I'm waiting for the giftshop sale now, so that I can get my own copy. Twenty percent off is a powerful incentive to wait. This one may have some good stuff in it as well. This book is on the F-117A written by Sgt. Robert (Bobby) Shelton who is/was the PA officer for Tonopah (I think). The theory is that there may be some unpublished stuff in there from the base photo archives on the history of the F-117 program at TTR, that we haven't seen before. There will be some new photos by Randy Jolly as well, from what I understand. As always check it out before buying. Price is $18.95, from what I've heard. Due out in a few weeks I think. This book is expected to contain a lot of previously unreleased photos, including some of the M-12 and D-21.
