I don't have the page number, but I briefly scanned the article this morning. The flight was a success. Maximum velocity was 15 fps horizontally. The hydrogen level inside the craft was above acceptable levels, and the outside was scorched by burning hydrogen which was trapped under the lip of the nose cap. Good article, though short. I ran into one of my MechE friends from MD Saturday night at a bar. We talked about it for a little while. He mentioned the burning hydrogen problem. Since the craft moves relatively slowly, any excess H2 doesn't get pulled away from the vehicle. I'm supposed to go mountian biking with him in two weeks, so I can get much more info then. - -tom -------------------------------------------------------------- | Thomas P. I went to SIGGRAPH up in Anaheim about a month ago (for those of you not in the computer industry, SIGGRAPH is the Computer Graphics industry convention, which includes CAD/CAM, 3-D rendering, computer animation, VR, etc.) There were a few companies that had flight simulators...good ones. There was even one VR simulator. It included stereo sound and a VR helmet. The guy I was with knew one of the programmers, so I got a little time on it without waiting in the huge lines. It was an F16 flight model and although some things were lacking (the cockpit graphics, you could only look 180 degrees) it was very impressive. I got myself a little disoriented while trying to spoof a SAM. I didn't get to test the model too well, but my initial feeling were that it was fairly accurate. I just need to convince my boss that I need the ONYX RealityEngine for my SGI. It'll be a tough sale, though. I figure $150,000 and I'll get less work done isn't really a strong business decision. - -tom -------------------------------------------------------------- | Thomas P. His one word description: "Wicked". The first release is going to be issued as a 'desk model' with no clear parts (solid windows) and with no landing gear. The real 'detailed' kit is going to follow, however, soon after so be carefule that you check to see what you're getting.
