I was at Toy's R Us last night buying a toy for a birthday party that my son has been invited to, and I happened to be right across from the model kit section. I noticed that there seemed to be a lot of new kits displayed, so I looked for the SR-75 model (Gee, Monogram has re-issued their Apollo Moon Stuff including the model of the fastest manned vehicle ever - the Apollo capsule (the big one) with the clear plastic access panels and the detailed interior for both the capsule and service module - Neat)!! Anyway, a lady was straightening up the models and I decided to ask her about the SR-75 thingy. She immediately knew about it and interrupted me in mid sentence to say that they didn't have it yet but that it was coming and that from the demand that already exists for it (evidently people have been calling Toy's R Us stores asking for it - a lot of calls) they are already anticipating problems stocking the kit. So she told me to call every day, and if they ever say it's in, to get my - ---- down there QUICK! Honestly! That's what she said! I was left wondering if she really was talking about the same thing I was talking about but anyway, that's what she said. I thought I'd call John Andrews and inform him of this incident. He said that he wasn't sure but he thinks the display stand model may have shipped last Friday. It is as Rick said, a display stand, in-flight model. When the papoose comes out later, all you'll have to do is bore out the holes in the back of the fuselage for the pylon for the XR-7. The pylon will come with the papoose (XR-7). The in-flight model is 1/72 scale like the following, more detailed, SR-75 and XR-7 kits that will ship in late September. Also, in a switch from Testors previous kits, the box top art is different on this kit. In the past Testors had a photograph of the assembled + painted model as box art. For these kits (all 3) the box art depicts a painting of the real aircraft. By the way, we have new nomenclature here - papoose. My guess is that with the M-12, we had a drone, namely the D-21A. With a mother ship that supports a manned vehicle on its back, Testors is calling it a papoose. I have no idea if this is Testors idea or if this is intelligence from the field. If you want to subscribe something other than the account the mail is coming from, such as a local redistribution list, then append that address to the "subscribe" command; for example, to subscribe "local-skunk-works": subscribe skunk-works-digest local-skunk-works@your.domain.net To unsubscribe, send mail to the same address, with the command: unsubscribe skunk-works-digest in the body. Administrative requests, problems, and other non-list mail can be sent to either "skunk-works-digest-owner@harbor.ecn.purdue.edu" or, if you don't like to type a lot, "prm@ecn.purdue.edu". A non-digest (direct mail) version of this list is also available; to subscribe to that instead, replace all instances of "skunk-works-digest" in the commands above with "skunk-works". Back issues are available for anonymous FTP from harbor.ecn.purdue.edu, in /pub/skunk-works/digest/vNN.nMMM (where "NN" is the volume number, and "MMM" is the issue number).
