The current Hammacher Schlemmer catalog lists item 53453X at $349.00: RUSSIAN MiG COCKPIT CLOCK is an authentic, functional timepiece that was originally set into the control panels of a high-speed MiG-29 jet fighter [...] built-in heater [...] 27-jewel movement with sweep second hand, stop watch and in-flight time indicator. Wind-up mechanical movement. Comes with a Russian inspection document and a photo showing it in a MiG cockpit. My guess would be that this is a standard Soviet military unit that probably was used in a variety of aircraft. I wonder if the clock in the SR-71 is a wind-up. I also wonder how that built-in heater works. Do you suppose there are any other interesting bits and pieces to be gotten wherever these came from ... ? -- Jay Freeman ------------------------------ From: "Ralph Ferneyhough" Date: Fri, 14 Jan 1994 18:18:05 +0000 (GMT) Subject: help help % Request help on server % Apologies if this gets broadcast, but if it does, please will % someone tell me how to access the server! ------------------------------ From: ron@habu.stortek.com (Ron Schweikert) Date: Fri, 14 Jan 94 12:23:02 MST Subject: Re: wind-up clock in the SR-71 >The current Hammacher Schlemmer catalog lists item 53453X at $349.00: [Russian Mig cockpit clock stuff deleted] >My guess would be that this is a standard Soviet military unit that >probably was used in a variety of aircraft. BTW, in the last issue of Flying magazine there was a company that (for ~$6000) would allow you to fly a Mig! Hmm, if I had 6K to blow on something like that, it'd be great! Can anyone on the Skunk Works ML tell me which inertial navigation system is installed on the Joint-STARS aircraft? Thanks, Safari Bob ------------------------------ From: "Philip R. Moyer" Date: Fri, 14 Jan 1994 16:35:03 EST Subject: Please Read! Important administrative news I have accepted a position with a company in San Jose, California, and will be moving in early March. My last day at Purdue's Engineering Computer Network will be March 3, 1994. The bad news is that I must find a new home for skunk-works and skunk-works-digest. If I cannot find a volunteer to administer the list, it will cease to exist (except on tape) until I can find a new site for it. The membership is 344 addresses for skunk-works and 276 addresses for skunk-works-digest. In addition, the archives are (today) 15.6 Meg. If you can run the skunk-works and maintain the archive, please, please, please contact me as soon as possible! I have really enjoyed running this list and I regret that I cannot take it with me. Perhaps within the year I can re-acquire it, but not right now; my new company does not have the systems support for such an undertaking. After March 3 my address will be moyer@arca.ca.com. Big, heavy, watertight seven-day movement clock. Painted in the typical Russian grey with chrome trim. I always wanted a ship's clock but could never afford what's on the market until now. Made by Vostok Clock Co., with a very detailed instruction/inspection sheet. #Do you suppose there are any other interesting bits and pieces to #be gotten wherever these came from ... ? I've seen a lot of Russian flight suits and helmets in Manion's mail auctions.
