Email psychospy for more details. - -- The White Sides Defense Committee will be sponsoring two semi- organized "Inspection Visits" to Freedom Ridge, offering the public the opportunity to tour the public lands targeted for withdrawal. (No peeking at the secret base!) These events will take place... Saturday, Feb. 26, at 10 am, and Thursday, March 3, at 12 noon (day after hearing) Email psychospy for more details. - -- The deadline for submitting written comments on the land grab has been extended to the March 2 hearing date. Send comments to: Mr. Billy Templeton, BLM Nevada State Director, P.O. Box 12000, Reno, NV 89520. Also send a copy of your letter to: Mr. Curtis Tucker, BLM Caliente Area Manager, P.O. Box 237, Caliente, NV 89008. If you've got any kind of beef with the withdrawal, please express it to these authorities, as they (or their bosses) will be making the final decision. Remember: Our strongest objection concerns the coy and evasive explanation the AF is giving ("to ensure the public safety," etc.). If they get this land now for this flimsy reason, then they will be able to take ANY land at ANY time for ANY reason. As Andre Molyneux points out in a recent posting: "Giving them a blank check to grab land is like giving them a blank check for funding - without real oversight, abuses and waste WILL occur." - -- In response to George Allegrezza's posting about the WLVI report: Yes, you can now drive to the top of Freedom Ridge in a four wheel drive. The rugged, cross-country FREEDOM RIDGE EXPRESSWAY was recently discovered by our archeological team. (It seems the ancient Aztecs/Romans also wanted a view of Groom Lake, so they drove their chariots up there. We just followed their trail.) - -- CONTEST! WIN BIG PRIZE! With 1.8 million issues of Popular Science now flooding the world's streets and other major media quickly becoming fixated on the NONEXISTENT GROOM LAKE BASE, it's clear that we have a SOCIAL PHENOMENOM brewing here, not unlike the Rubik's Cube, Disco Duck and "Who Shot J.R.?" fads of yesteryear. All Groom Lake/Area 51 needs now is a THEME SONG. If you write one and it impresses our panel of judges, you could win an ESCORTED 4WD TOUR OF FREEDOM RIDGE. Your words should be written to the tune of an already familiar song like "New York, New York" or "Theme from Saturday Night Fever." Submit your entries to psychospy by March 2. - -- A reminder: Our on-line newsletter, THE GROOM LAKE DESERT RAT, is available free by email to any internet user. Issues #3 and #3A contain complete info on the hearing and inspection visits. To subscribe and receive back issues, just send us a message. psychospy@aol.com (Glenn Campbell, 702-729-2648) ------------------------------ End of Skunk Works Digest V5 #17 ******************************** To subscribe to skunk-works-digest, send the command: subscribe skunk-works-digest in the body of a message to "majordomo@mail.orst.edu".
