Greetings Skunkers... A few minutes ago Brigadier General Charles "Chuck" Yeager spoke at my school and had some interesting comments about the development of U.S. aircraft since World War II. I kept an ear open for y'all, but most of his comments were pretty general. Of his speech, his most interesting comments included: "The great advantage of the U.S. over its enemies is its advantage to develop covert aircraft such as the U-2, SR-71, F-117 and the AIRPLANES being developed today" (by the way these quotes come from memory but are very close) Also he discussed the fact that the U.S. has been working on stealth aircraft for over twenty years, and that he had been personally involved in work on the B-2 since 1982. He said that within the past 6 years there has been a veritable revolution in the world of stealth, due to two factors. The first is the marriage of stealth technology and aerodynamic airframes, and the second is the the development of new engines by General Electric and Pratt and Whitney (nothing about alien technology, sorry ;-) ) He said that the latter of these advantages has given the Air Farce the ability to break the 1.7 mach number barrier. He was very adamant in his support of stealth technology, and said that it basically nullified 50 years of radar research. This was basically all the gouge. Although this is not really new information, I think it is important that it did in fact come from a source that a) everyone knows and trusts and b) has been involved with the development of every single Air Farce platform since the end of World War II. Sorry if this is clutter, but I thought it would be useful. Very Respectfully, David E. A question: Why haven't pictures from the now-famous "nine seconds" video of the alleged TR-3A been splattered all over the cover of Aviation Week yet? Or have they and I missed it? I remember AW&ST ran an article on the Black Manta following the Gulf War, and had an artist's rendering. Pop Mech or Pop Sci also ran something awhile back. I'm really curious to see these pictures. Is there some reason why Mr. Campbell (it was Glenn who took the video, was it not?) is holding onto his prize? I just subscribed to this mailing list, but I have been reading the digests. Could someone out there update me on the status of the Groom Lake land grab by the USAF? There were supposed to be some pretty important meetings on this issue not too long ago, according to Mr. Campbell's "Groom Lake Desert Rat" newsletter. Thanks. Keep watching the skies...
