This calls to mind the "Habu" nickname bestowed on the SR-71 by the Japanese. The pilot of the 33rd production F-117 (tail no. 817) named his bird "Shaba" and painted appropriate "nose art" on the inside of his weapons bay door. After the Gulf War, the 416th Fighter Squadron "Ghost Riders" used SHABA as a mission call sign (i.e. SHABA 61). The 416th FS is now the 8th FS "Blacksheep." It would be interesting to know if they still use the SHABA call sign.
