Nick B ------------------------------ From: BROWN A <92913938@mmu.ac.uk> Date: Thu, 29 Jun 1995 10:37:25 GMT Subject: Anti-gravity work by NASA All this talk recently of anti-gravity propulsion methods, and not one mention of Alan Holts work for NASA! For those of you who don't know about him, I'll explain. In the 1980s (I can't remember exactly when, but I've got it written down somewhere), he published a paper titled "Field Resonance Propulsion concepts", describing various methods of making a craft "ride" the natural gravity waves which theoretically abound in the universe. I've never managed to trace a copy of the paper (Anyone out there got any ideas,) and I currently don't have the time to try to chase down a copy, but from what I've heard, its quite a read. When Bob Lazar first came out of the woodwork, he pointed to Holts paper as being based on identicle principles to what he had worked on. Now, whether you believe Lazar or not, It seems that NASA too have been doing at least theoretical work on the subject. If anyone out there has a copy of this paper, or knows where to find one, please let me know, as I'd love to read it. Adrian Brown (92913938@mmu.ac.uk). BTW it's rumoured that an F-117 will be at the RAF Waddington airshow, which replaces the long-running Finningly show from this year, anyone got any confirmation of that? ------------------------------ From: "J. [...] >Adrian Brown (Thu, 29 Jun 1995 10:37:25 GMT) These anti-gravity talks (same would be of faster-than-light talks) are even more off charter than UFO talks (BTW, it has been demonstrated that *hypothetical* ETs could visit us with a technology only slightly better than ours: no need of faster-than-light or anti-gravity craft). I don't understand why these wild "theoretical" talks appear on skunk-works. Unless, of course, if by anti-gravity you mean countering the Earth gravitational field and ascending with balloons, planes or rockets... But this gravitational waves riding stuff is just outside our physics (and very probably anyone else's physics...). Maybe somebody with the NASA published something about that, but if it were "peer reviewed" it would not have been published. J. Thoughts of job possibilities keep prancing through my head. It has been my dream for, oh, almost the last 10 years to get a job at the Lockheed Advanced Development Company (Skunk Works). Now, here comes the tricky part - how does one gain employment at such a prestigious company? Especially, since Lockheed Martin just laid off 10,000+ workers from various plants! Are they going to hire any newbie engineers, who by the way require salaries 1/4 those of senior engineers, or are they going to kill every budding engineer's hopes and thumb their nose at us? Any tips on what I should be doing now and during the next year (my last year b4 I graduate)? I know all the standard tips (get internship experience, etc. -- I have!), but I would like to hear your comments and ideas on how to gain employment at _LADC_. Geeze, right now I would probably accept a job as a mail-room boy, so I could at least get my foot in the door there and eventually climb the ranks. BTW - I applied for a summer internship program last summer (well, for _this_ summer, I mean) at LADC. I got a call from them saying that because of defense cut-backs, they were only hiring out of the Palmdale, CA area for the program. a.k.a. Do you think it would be to my advantage to move to Palmdale, CA after I graduate, so they don't have to worry about transferring me? I couldn't exactly make company visits, tho, to meet everyone and do some networking.... ANY tips (even minute ones, except for making sure to look both ways before crossing the street.....) would be helpful! I would say that you could reply to this message via the main group, but hey, why not increase my chances of getting a job there and decrease my "competition" by e-mailing me directly if you wish! See my .sig below for the info.... :) Thanks for trudging though this long (but yes, it _does_ deal with the Skunk Works, and not UFOs) message! wait, UFO: Unemployed Future Operant ....hmmmmmmmm robin :p - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- . -- . The story's a month old, but I haven't seen any mention of it on the list as yet. The offense in question apparently concerns a ship as opposed to an aircraft, but at least it's Skunk Works related. - ----- Los Angeles Times News Service Washington Post, 26 May 1995 Man Indicted for Trying to Sell Stealth Plans Los Angeles, May 25 -- In a move the government called a warning to disgruntled aerospace workers tempted to peddle U.S. defense secrets, a former Lockheed engineer was indicted today on attempted espionage charges for allegedly trying to sell secret plans concerning the Sea Shadow, a Navy stealth project. John Douglas Charlton, 62, allegedly tried to sell the plans concerning the ship and other projects to an FBI agent posing as an official from an unnamed Western European government, according to prosecutors. Charlton, who in an interview denied the allegation as "a pack of lies," worked for Lockheed divisions in Sunnyvale and Burbank, Calif. including the high-tech military research group known as the Skunk Works, where the Sea Shadow was designed. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 105 years in prison and $2.75 million in fines. - ----- ------------------------------ From: Alien Date: Thu, 29 Jun 1995 22:32:24 -0400 Subject: RE: These wretched loudmouths and their UFOs - ---------- From: Nick Barnes[SMTP:nickb@harlequin.co.uk] Sent: Thursday, June 29, 1995 4:37 AM To: skunk-works-digest@gaia.ucs.orst.edu Subject: These wretched loudmouths and their UFOs Can we find a moderator? Where should I look for it? Can I obtain it electronically? It's good to see we have people on this list with some propulsion experience! Is there a place anyone's found on the net (another list perhaps?, a usenet group?) which deals more with propulsion topics? I've done some backyard tinkering with small subsonic ramjets, and what I'd like to know is: Has anyone come up with a design which runs without moving through the air? (not a V-1 style pulsejet, been there, done that, too LOUD!) I'm currently scouring the net for evidence of such a thing having been patented. Perhaps this beast could operate in two modes, one to get it moving through the air (perhaps low efficiency) and a second for higher mach numbers when it had stored up some kinetic energy. Chuck, your work sounds very interesting, will you tell the list more about your experience with ramjets?
