I am sure the Navy does publish figures about the number of sailors get blown overboard off aircraft carriers, and you could probably e-mail them for the information. Working the flight deck is extremely hazardous...think about it...the ship is turned into the wind (say 25 knots), the ship is making 35 knots...total 60 knot wind blowing across the deck...and nothing to grab hold of over on the side. I congratulate the kid for keeping his head, not giving up, his instructors at either PI or SD, and the Pakistani fishing boat that picked him up. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + John F. In the latter four identical explosions were used for three bogey aircraft. I kept expecting humor or a punchline, surprise, there wasn't any. Avoid at all costs if possible. He counted 6,000 times he had to do this! Pretty resourceful and tough minded, although =he= didn't seem to think so. BTW, they lose only 51 swept overboard per year, most being recovered w/in a few minutes. In this case the guy forgot to secure the door he used, and a gust of wind blew it open, catapulting him over the rail. Don't want to get too far off topic, so I'll shut up now. ;-) Oh, I presume everyone saw the rather complete breakdown of the Tier plus and Tier minus programs in October's Pop Sci. If not, we'll post part of it. regards, ________ BaDge ------------------------------ End of Skunk Works Digest V5 #562 ********************************* To subscribe to skunk-works-digest, send the command: subscribe skunk-works-digest in the body of a message to "majordomo@mail.orst.edu".
