Why not get some of the photos that the U-2's ans "RS-71"s took while flying over sensitive spots and make drink coasters, dinnerplace mats, wall paper and collectors item prints. On the back you could have a breif description of what theb photo is, who took it and the signiture of the pilot who flew the plane. Think about it. I am being serious.I have a freind who is partner in the biggest Tele-marketing company in Europe. Sorry to hear that Mr. Rich passed away. I hope your stealths put on a show for him. My Email address is : afsholz@micronica.com.au I would like to obtain a catalogue to purchase merchandise: caps ,pictures, jackets and models of planes and an insight as to the future of skunkworks. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Aug 1997 11:03:07 -0400 (EDT) From: BDLiddicoa@aol.com Subject: For the next issue... I'm a private pilot and attorney in San Francisco. Later this fall I plan to visit Las Vegas and fly the "Sunday Circle" around Groom Lake, taking advantage of the fact that the surrounding Restricted Areas go offline on Sundays. This is rather a long flight, with little in the way of visual landmarks. If anyone has done this route or has some advice, please post it to the Skunk Works or email me. Write me if you're interested in coming along, manning a camera, and sharing the costs. Brian D. Liddicoat San Francisco ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Aug 1997 22:23:24 -0400 (EDT) From: Xelex@aol.com Subject: Groom Lake Regarding whether or not Groom lake is officially acknowledged by the Air Force: On 29 September 1995, President Bill Clinton signed Presidential Determination 95-45, which stated in part: "I find that it is in the paramount interest of the United States to exempt the United Staes Air Force's operating location near Groom Lake, Nevada from any applicable requirement for the disclosure to unauthorized persons of classified information concerning that operating location." The site was actually less "secret" while under the control of th CIA (as Watertown, and later Area 51). The Atomic Energy Commision released information packets to the press that described "weather research" with U-2 aircraft operating from Watertown during the late 1950s. During the 1960s the Nevada Test Site newsletter listed Area 51 phone numbers, and published sports scores from playoffs between Area 51 and Mercury (HQ of the NTS). After 1977, when the site was turned over to Air Force Systems Command (as Detachment 3 of the Air Force Flight Test Center) the shroud of secrecy began to tighten around Groom. Oddly, it wasn't until after HAVE BLUE, SENIOR PROM, and much of TACIT BLUE and SENIOR TREND that the Air Force seized most of the Groom Mountains (89,000 acres in 1984) to prevent unauthorized viewing of the site.
