While I did try to keep it uptodate, I was on FIDOnet and didn't know that the files I made got imported to Internet and people's web sites. Of the three sites mentioned by John I have to rate mine not as uptodate as John's file and David Allison's file. When I went to Leland's really nice web site, I was totally shocked to my Blackbird locations list! Unfortunately it had my old Internet address as well as our old snail-mail address. I believe Leland has already made some updates so I hope it's reasonably close to 100% as possible. All of the time I was using FIDOnet, I was using my 1983 IBM PC/XT and 360K 5.25" floppies. At some point the HD failed and I didn't backup my Blackbird files. Now I'm on Internet and don't have any way to copy those ancient floppies to 3.5" disks. And I donated all of the PC computer except for the printer to an "electonic recycling" site. Still have 100s of 5.25" floppies but I think I will throw them out. I hated to throw out the NEC multi-sync monitor that was very popular before 1990. It still worked after 10+ years! Enough babbling... The custom of placing flowers on graves is an old one that exists in many countries. Today, almost everywhere around the globe, people have a special day to honor not only those who gave their lives in battle, but also family members and friends whom they wish to remember.

Eulogy for a Veteran

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the Gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

pause at 3:00pm local time for a minute of respectful silence for those who have died in the service of our nation. During that minute, television and radio stations throughout America will air simultaneously a 60-second spot which includes ``Taps". Carter, Ph.D., MIFireE Lord let us pause to remember them all: who answered our country's danger call. They came from the east, north, south and west: to give their all - to protect the rest. As war clouds broke in the far off distance: they trained with diligence and persistence. Warm memories of home carried them through the days: so often long and fraught with frustration and delays. The time for battle drew close, so near; their destination was war, their companion fear. They did their job, a most deadly task; No quarter did they give nor quarter ask. Through jungles, over deserts, in the chill winters night: They battled the enemy and drove home the fight. To the enemy's door step they fought and bled: They knew this was the only path to home which led. When the fight was over and the battles done: The foe was vanquished and the war was won. Our people came back to the freedom they'd earned To a land of freedom that the enemy had spurned. In public and private they resolutely vowed To honor the dead both in private and aloud. The lessons of war to keep brightly alight to honor the lives which were lost in the fight. As the years flew by with increasing speed; fewer people would pause, the lessons to heed. Of what happens when freedom is taken for granted: By those whose views are selfish or slanted. Their ranks grow thinner with each passing year: As they pause, another bugle call they hear. Those people who answered the danger call Now one by one - by the wayside fall. God bless them and keep them but most of all Please give us the strength to answer the call. For freedom's a blessing you'll surely agree. But its price is the blood of people like you and me. In memory of Colonel Harry B. Carter, AUS Retired (1922-1988) a Combat Veteran of World War II who answered the call to arms in April of 1940, while still a senior at Freehold High School. With Permission ©2000 Harry R. PRIVACY, SECURITY AND USE NOTICE

1. The USAF Museum web site is provided as a public service by the United States Air Force Museum.

This web site is a volunteer project. Although hosted on Wright-Patterson AFB web servers, all content is created, developed and maintained by volunteers using information provided primarily by the USAF Museum Public Affairs and Research Divisions.

We strive to ensure the accuracy of all information presented on the web site, but there are no guarantees. When in doubt, check with the professional staff. See the How to Contact the USAF Museum page for details.

2. Information presented on the USAF Museum web site is considered public information and may be distributed or copied after coordination with the Museum's Public Affairs and/or Research Division. Use of appropriate byline/photo/image credits is requested -- we suggest:
"Photos/Information courtesy of the US Air Force Museum".

Department of Defense organizations may use web site material on official organizational pages without prior approval of the Museum staff. However, we'd appreciate a brief email describing the use for our records.

Most Information presented on the USAF Museum web site is available in the USAF Museum Archives which is open to the public for research purposes.

If you wish to use USAF Museum web site information (including photos) you should copy it from the original source material in the archives. In certain cases, the Museum's Public Affairs Division and/or the Research Division may approve reuse of material directly from the web site (i.e. copied or downloaded from the web site rather than from the original source location in the archives.) In many cases, donated photos and documents have instructions which apply to any reuse (commercial or otherwise).

These donated items are not in the unrestricted public domain.

The following table has frequently asked questions and answers:

Rules for using information/image files directly from the USAF Museum web site
Can I use information/images for my school project? (reports, assignments, etc) Yes, educational use is OK as long as it's not for electronic (web site, cd-rom, etc.) or 'for profit' (fund raising) republication. (see below for details)
Can I use information/images on a CD-ROM project? No, you must get the information/images from the USAF Museum archives in person.
Can I use information/images on my personal web site? company web site? etc. No, you must get the information/images from the USAF Museum archives in person.
Can I post images or information to a news group? No, all re-publication of USAF Museum web site information to any internet site, including posting to news groups, is prohibited.
Can I use information/images in my publication? (magazine, book, newsletter) No, you must get the information from the USAF Museum archives in person.
Can I use information/images on my educational website as part of a class?

Yes, mail a brief description of your proposed use along with the website URL which must be in the .edu domain on school letterhead to:
USAF Museum Research Division
1100 Spaatz Street
Wright Patterson AFB, OH 45433

We would encourage you to link to appropriate sections rather than copying and republishing them whenever possible.

Can I use information/images on my educational website if I don't have a .edu domain name? No, you must get the information from the USAF Museum archives in person.
How come I can't use the information directly off the USAF Museum website?

In many cases, archive material--especially photographs--are donated with conditional or limited reuse agreements and in some cases copyrights. The USAF Museum web site provides this information as a public service, but all reuse (except as outlined above) must be coordinated through the Research Division to ensure credit and legal guidelines are followed. These items are not in the public domain.

Secondly, the USAF Museum web site is a volunteer project--we don't have any authority to grant permission to use USAF Museum information/photos.

I can't travel to the USAF Museum archives, can I use web site information/photos if the Research Division approves it? In most cases, no. The Research division archives are indexed using a system completely different from the web site. Unless you can reference the object using the archives scheme, the archivist has no way to cross-reference a request from the web site to the actual archives folder (there are thousands of folders and hundreds of thousands of photos and documents).
How come your reuse rules are so restrictive?

Unfortunately, unauthorized reuse of USAF Museum web site information/images is a serious problem. In many cases, the reuse implies USAF Museum or United States Air Force endorsement which is never the case.

Second, the web site exists to promote the actual USAF Museum. Although the USAF Museum is free to all visitiors, the number of visitors is critical to our survival (funding!) Material republished from the USAF web site, in many cases, doesn't even mention there is a USAF Museum. We encourage you to link to sections of the USAF Museum web site for your projects rather than copy and republish it (which is unauthorized reuse as outlined above).

Lastly, the rules have always been this way. Before the web site, researchers had to travel to the USAF Museum archives to gather information. We simply want to ensure all reuse is coordinated through the Research Division as required. We aren't saying you can't use the information/photos, only that you must get it from the USAF Museum Research Division archives.

How do I get an appointment to conduct research in the archives? See the Research Division web page.

3. Permission to link to the USAF Museum web site is granted; however, DO NOT put the link inside a (html) frame on your site. Use a simple link or spawn a new window.

4. For site management, information is collected for statistical purposes. This government computer system uses software programs to create summary statistics, which are used for such purposes as assessing what information is of most and least interest, determining technical design specifications, and identifying system performance or problem areas. Raw data logs are used to generate summary statistics; however, these logs are not used directly (and are unavailable to the USAF Museum web team). Summary statistics are: Total hits, Total hits by hour, Total hits by date, Total hits by page, Total hits by top level domain (.com, .org, .mil, etc.) and total hits inside and outside of the Wright-Patterson AFB domain (wpafb.af.mil).

5. For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, this government computer system employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage.

6. Raw data logs will only be used to identify individual users and their usage habits for authorized law enforcement investigations or national security purposes. These logs are scheduled for regular destruction in accordance with National Archives and Records Administration General Schedule 20.

7. Unauthorized attempts to deny service, upload information, change information, or to attempt to access a non-public site from this service are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under Title 18 of the U.S. Code to include the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act.

8. If you have any questions or comments about the information presented here, please forward them to
Pat Champ
USAF Museum Webmaster (Volunteer).
